Sample Phone Call Script

Hi there,

My name is _______, and I am from _______. I’m calling because I’d like (Senator or Representative) _______ to support the Farm Bill.

~ Farmers need the certainty of the Farm Bill safety net because they are dealing with a five-year, fifty percent drop in net farm income. This drop is forcing many family farmers into significant financial strain, and in many cases, to sell their farms.

~ We need strong conservation programs to support farmers in protecting our land and water. These programs expired in October when the previous Farm Bill lapsed.

~ And we need strong market access and fair markets for family farmers and ranchers. These markets help farmers meet consumer demands and earn a higher share of the retail food dollar. The Farm Bill programs that support these expired in October.

We need to get the 2018 Farm Bill passed in order to provide family farmers some certainty, and to get important programs back up and running to support family farmers and our food system.

I'm going to keep close attention to whether or not (Senator or Representative) _______ supports the Farm Bill. Please keep me up-to-date on his/her efforts.

Thank you.
